EXT. PARK – DAY

A group of people sit around a blue tarpaulin in an open space on the grass. They are surrounded by the paraphernalia of an office picnic. They are all getting drunk.

A young man (23) gets up and slides into his shoes at the edge of the blue sheet. His white shirt is open at the neck and his sleeves are rolled up. He has a packet of cigarettes in his shirt pocket and lights one up as he staggers off towards the park toilets. He is really very, very drunk.

At the urinal, he looks out through an open window as he takes a piss and sees a secluded area of the park where there is just one girl (20) lying on a beach towel.

She is wearing a small, brightly coloured bikini and has light brown, almost golden skin. She’s lying face down, reading a book and as he watches, turns onto her side. She has the body of a goddess.

The young man looks on, spellbound. The cigarette drops from his mouth and into the urinal as he jerks instinctively to avoid burning his dick, but can’t take his eyes off the girl for more than a fraction of a second.

He stares. He is entranced. He lovingly caresses every contour of her body with his eyes.

He stands motionless at the urinal for a long time. An older guy comes in, takes one look at the young man and scoots into a stall, slamming the door and locking it. It’s clear from the older guy’s reaction that the young one has a hard-on.

The young man is woken from his trance by the banging of the door, looks down, shocked. He swiftly and carefully zips up. He sways out of the entrance but stops, holding onto a handrail for balance. The older guy comes out, giving him a wild look and a wide berth.

The young man mutters to himself.

YOUNG MAN

(almost unintelligible)

Do it. Just do it. You have to. You will never get the chance ever again.

The young man pushes his way through some bushes to the rear of the toilet block and sees her again. She’s lying face down again and isn’t aware of him.

He slowly approaches her – a wavering line.

He stands near her. Just looking. He examines every pore of her perfect skin. It glistens with health and vitality and sweat.

He knows he could stand there for ever and never need a thing more in his entire life and as long as he is perfectly quiet, perhaps this moment could last.

He hiccups.

The girl turns her head. She’s wearing large dark sunglasses so he can’t see her eyes, but that doesn’t matter – she has the face of an angel.

She can’t see him at all because he’s standing directly in front of the sun.

She raises a hand to try to shield her eyes from the glare and squints.

GIRL

Excuse me?

The young man is flustered and lets out a sort of yelp. But he gathers his wits and tries to speak.

YOUNG MAN

(completely unintelligible)

Blurghwerthrethlemiticsgolos etc

[Subtitles : Please excuse me I had no intention of startling you or causing you any harm or upset in any way.]

The girl looks on, unimpressed.

YOUNG MAN (CONT’D)

(completely unintelligible)

Blurgh…etc

[Subtitles : But I saw you from a distance and I realised that this moment, this precious, blessed moment in time was the one chance in my entire life when I would ever be able to do this.]

The girl has zero reaction.

YOUNG MAN (CONT’D)

(completely unintelligible)

Blurgh…etc

[Subtitles : For I instantly recognised you. And because I recognised you and the impossible uniqueness of this moment, I was compelled to approach you and tell you this truth.]

The girl is clearly not understanding a word and doesn’t want to.

YOUNG MAN (CONT’D)

(completely unintelligible – long speech)

Blurgh…etc

[Subtitles : I know one truth and one truth only. That you are the most beautiful woman in the entire world that has ever lived or could ever live. That you are perfect. Beyond perfection. That even though we will never meet again I wanted you to know that my life has been infinitely enriched by this single moment. One day I will die and when I do I will die gladly because I have met you. Because just the simple experience of communicating with you for the briefest of moments is enough to fulfil this wretched, worthless heart of mine for all eternity. That angels will dance my soul to nirvana because I have been blessed. You. You have done this for me and I have more gratitude than the universe could ever hold. Now, I am complete.]

The girl is getting bored.

YOUNG MAN (CONT’D)

(completely unintelligible)

Blurgh…etc

[Subtitles : Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You will never know how much this means to me.]

He’s dead right about that.

He bows unsteadily and as reverently as he can muster, turns and walks off.

All she can see is a silhouette of him as he moved further away. She shrugs and goes back to reading her book.

The young man has tears streaming down his face. He is enraptured.

FADE OUT.
